Discipleship and mentorship is important in spiritual growth |
It turned out to be more than that. It became a moment of earnest seeking of God's grace and anointing to see through each day. What we had introduced, or rather, what god introduced was not just a day to pray for the examinations, but for some, it became a day for turning to God fully and trusting him for their lives.
For others, it became a turning point, a day of realisation of the pain, the anger, the hurt they had for a long time suppressed in their hearts; for others, it was a day of deliverance from the grip of the evil one.
Yes, this day was so of god such that even as BOC-YP, we realised that we needed to seek for God's grace more for having given us stewardship of the children. As they stood there, in praise and worship of God, they seemed to be like sheep without a shepherd. They seemed like they were left to deal with life situations. There seemed to be no mentorship. So God gave us the duty to see to it that we make inroads into the schools.
In the ghettos, life is not as rosy as you find in other suburbs, where the children are generally well cared for. Children in the ghettos are open to the vagaries of the world. it is here, that a lot of leaders are born, or killed. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." James 1:2-3beckons to us all.
Children in the ghetto have a lot of trials they have to overcome to be a somebody in their future life. But, the sad reality is that many will not be the best they ought to be due to a number of issues, including low self esteem, under-placed ambitions, lack of guidance, lack of resources to further studies, and little or no mentorship.
the problem becomes worse when the person does not know God. they turn to prostitution, drug addiction or robbery at the turn of harshness. The reason is always, "I had no Choice".
As BOC - YP we told them they had a choice. They had Jesus to trust and believe in. They had other Christians who cared about them, and they had a purpose to fulfill. God says before you were conceived, I knew you. So there is a purpose why everyone is here, even from the ghetto. Esther a foreigner broke the record and married the king, and she saved here whole clan.
A session on identity of a child in light of God's word was taken up, where some pupils turned to God on that day. Others repented, while some needed the spirit of God to help them forgive their abusive relatives, if not own biological fathers and step mothers. The suffering in the children was quiet visible, and the need for release expressed quiet well.
As BOC- YP, we are confident that our God, who is well able to understand where these children are, will help the leaders in society to embrace the children and take them through life. not to teach them to run away from issues, but to confront them with confidence of victory guaranteed by God.
We look forwad to the next Schools' conference, but even more, we look forward to embrace these students to realise that God is their hope in this dark and grim world.
Let us all join hands and fight for the cause of God for children.
For we are taking back the nations to God through the Youth.
